Explore the art of paper mache in beautiful San Miguel de Allende - a city renowned for its stunning architecture, cultural richness, and artistic community.

Our two-day workshop is perfect for all levels and will be led by professional artist Marti McGinnis. Learn to create a sturdy armature, mix adhesives, and apply paper-based sculptural media to achieve your desired surface.

Whether you're an expert or novice, you'll gain confidence and leave with your own masterpiece. Discover the sensory delight of San Miguel de Allende and create an instant heirloom work of art. Join us for two days of artistic exploration and inspiration.

Day 1

The Build

We’ll start with a discussion of the options for you to consider to create your piece depending on your skills, comfort level and desires. You’ll learn how to create your own vessel, wall piece, hanging or standing sculpture.

4. Create your armature

5. 2 layers of paper and wheat adhesive

6. OPTIONAL paper pulp frosting and paper pulp clay details

Throughout the first day Marti will be sharing some of the history of this time honored art medium. Some of the information may surprise you!

Day 2

Painting and Finishing
We’ll start with a discussion of the options of how to layer up the acrylic paints provided to achieve the finish you desire for this piece. Samples will be on hand to help you visualize the final outcomes for several suggested approaches.

1. Sand your now dry armature

2. Fill any gaps and holes

3. Prime

4. First layer of paint

5. Additional layers

6. Details

7. Optional urethane finish
