Big Beautiful Edith and her intrepid little-big creation; |
Edith, the nurse mare Percheron from Walnut Hall joined our Big Barn endeavors in March. We were all expecting a draft mule foal, but Edith was not. She knew that the paperwork was erroneous, and in early April Kimmy and Amanda helped her deliver Buford, a Percheron/Standardbred foal. The gals imprinted the little boy right away and now he is a friendly and manageable well behaved little colt. It is most interesting to compare his progress with the less fortunate Juno who was not imprinted and continues to be an orphan. It just goes to show you, there is something to that nurturing after all. On the right, Edith fairly soon after her arrival. She is not a happy camper, but she has her reasons. She herself was abused and was in fact rescued by Joe at Walnut Hall. And though her life has a taken a turn for the better, she does not know how to interact gracefully with humans. Happily, her foal does. |
