"Big Idea" - an experiment in growing an image

It's sort of a wordless adventure.
A kind of daily creative journal .
The sum of its parts.

I started on January 1st, 2002.

It was my intention to do one a day for a full year. This did not exactly happen. I fell behind in May when I spent more time outside gardening like a nut. However, I have managed to get over 150 pieces done so far, and will add more as they present themselves - or whenever I need to jumpstart my creative thinking!

The rules for this are: Subsequent paintings must play off a previous image in the series (going in closer, farther - or even playing off of a border of a previous piece).. Once a picture gets finished I can't go back and change it in any way. If I messed up or find a dead-end, I have to deal with it!

This self-assignment was the jumping off point for my next project "The Natural History of a Happy Land" (here)

The images you see here are scanned gouache paintings on 9" x 12" bristol paper board.
