I love people who help animals. Here where I live in Kentucky there are some stand-out thoroughbred (race horse) recue organizations and my all-time favorite has to be Old Friends Equine Retirement in Georgetown. Headed by the former film critic for The Boston Globe, Michael Blowen, with his awesome and talented writer wife, Dianne, Old Friends is truly making a difference in the world of horse racing.

Artist of the Month

This month they have chosen me as their “Artist of the Month” and I am truly humbled. We go back a ways, Old Friends and me. I met Michael at an little indoor art show in Lexington about 7 years ago and from that chance meeting I’ve gotten to design a bunch of t-shirts for them to sell in their gift store. I also make fairly regular donations to their fund raising efforts with original paintings.

If you’re ever in Kentucky you should make a point to go visit their farm. It’s located right here. It’s a feel-good stop in any journey – even if you’ve come to KY for the Bourbon Trail – you’ll enjoy hearing the stories they share about the champions they have in rolling fence planked fields.

Rehoming the Tough Guys

Come meet the legendary Affirmed Success

Specializing in difficult to re-home stallions (they tend to fight so it’s usually safer for them to live in a private paddock) this is a collective I love!

Here are two¬†current¬†pieces I have for sale in my “Fundraising for Animals” section of my online shop. And for the rest of the month of January mention Old Friends when you place your order and I’ll donate 20% of your purchase price to their cause!
